Post Disaster Recovery & Reconstruction

UN-HABITAT Post Disaster Recovery & Reconstructionprogrammes assist countries in recovering from war or natural disasters. The agencies interventions are driven by a “Peoples’ Process” which seeks to empower disaster-stricken to be in the drivers’ seat of their own recovery

Since the 2004 December Indian Ocean Tsunami, Sri Lanka has been assisted by UN-HABITAT in rebuilding nearly 20,000 destroyed homes, vital community infrastructure and ways of life of the affected. In addition the agency has also helped capacitate and facilitate the recovery process through technical expertise, and policy level inputs.
